Reflexive Pronouns and Intensive Pronouns

Reflexive Pronouns :

Are special kinds of pronouns that refer to a certain suject within a sentence.

These type of pronoun talk about a certain word provided that antecedent is placed

Within the same sentence or clause.

Usually, it ends with self (singular) or selves (plural)

Use of Reflexive pronouns :

  1. Direct Object

    Who or what (after the verb)

    Examples :

    Joseph is training himself to become renowned  public speaker
    You might hurt yourself with that pointed apparatus

  1. Inderect Object

    When the pronoun recognizes to whom or for whom the action of the verb is accomplishedExamples :

    The Reyes sisters bought themselves something to munch
    She baked herself a chocolate cake

  2. Object of preposition

    When it is inside a prepositional phrase

    Examples :

    They have to see the problem for themselves
    Gina prepared dinner by herself

Intensive Pronouns :

used to give emphasis to the subject or an antecedent  of the sentence

Examples :

Manila itself is the main contributor in Philippine economy
She fixed her motorbike herself
