Types of Sentences in English Grammar

What is Sentence ?

Sentence is a group of words, that make complete senses and expresses a thought

We use sentences when we speak, read and write.
All sentences begin with  a capital letter  and end with a full stop (.), question mark (?) and exclamatory mark (!).

There are 4 types of Sentences :

  1. Declarative Sentence

    Makes a statement or give information. It ends with a full stop.
    Example: There is a chemical factory nearby

  2. Imperative Sentence

    Gives a command, makes a request , or a wish.
    It mostly ends with a full stop and sometimes, an exclamation mark.Example : Ask the children to get ready for a test

    The subject in an imperative sentence is always in the second person. It is implied and often not spoken

    Example : (you) Do not go there!

  3. Interrogative Sentence

    Asks question , it ends with a question mark (?).
    Example: Have you read the newspaper?

  4. Exclamatory Sentence

    Expresses happiness, anger, fear, disgust, and shock.
    It ends with an exclamation mark.
    Example : What an impossible task that is!
