“To Be” in Questions

One important rule:
With “to be,” we usually put the verb before the subject.
Statement:
You are happy.
Question:
Are you happy?
Statement:
She is a teacher.

Is she a teacher?

Negative Sentences
To make a negative sentence, put not after the verb.

The past forms of to be are:

- they
- plural nouns
Examples:

“Be” as the Base Form
The base form is be.
We use be after certain verbs and modal verbs.
After modal verbs
- can be

- You must be careful.
- It could be difficult.
Important
After a modal verb, use be, not is/am/are.
Correct:
She will be here.
Incorrect:

The infinitive is:

Being is the present participle of be.
